CREATIVE GENIUS | GEORGE KUROKURO
Q&A
Q: Tell us about your experience with PNG Fashion Week. Where did it all start?
A: My journey to PNG Fashion Week started in 2021 while I was studying Creative Arts at University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG). During my third and Final years of study in UPNG I was the Creative director at the UPNG Fashion Show and I also took part in the Creative Arts Showcases, Hilton Port Moresby.
Through my role as Creative director for UPNG Fashion Show I met Andrew Kulinasi who was creative director for PNG Fashion Week at the time. He reached out to UPNG Creative Arts Division to collaborate the fashion show. I studied and worked with him in his role in choreography and as creative director.
A year later in 2023, through Andrew’s recommendation I was engaged as Creative Director for PNGFW. My role as creative director for PNGFW has exposed me to the PNG Fashion industry and has given me the opportunity to take part in building the industry here in PNG.
Q:What is your educational background?
A: I just recently graduated in April this year with a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring Creative Arts and Journalism & Public Relations from the University of Papua New Guinea.
Q: Apart from your work at PNGFW, what other hobbies or interests do you have and enjoy?
A: Currently, we are preparing for our Fundraising event that is happening on the 23rd May. This fundraiser is for our trip to Fiji. We are representing Papua New Guinea Fashion on an international platform at Fiji Fashion Week.
As a creative director I am looking froward to learning and getting new insights from this experience and further developing the PNG Fashion industry.
