23 October, 2024
In the ever-evolving world of fashion, stories of young talents rising to stardom capture the imagination. One such inspiring tale is that of Jalissa Terikian, a young girl whose journey to a runway sensation, taking the fashion industry by storm, eventuated after four years!
At just 18 years old, Jalissa was like many teenagers—juggling school, friendships, and had a passion for fashion. Growing up in a quiet suburb, she spent countless hours sketching designs, following runway shows online, and dreaming of one day walking the catwalk herself. With her unique style and confidence, Jalissa stood out among her peers, when she applied in 2020, but at the time, she decided not to take it up, as she has studies to focus on. This was a sound decision because fast forward four years later, Jalissa debut in 2024’s “Ascension” just blew up!
Jalissa was on the “Ascensions” campaign billboard in 2024 on her debut. Her natural grace and poise caught the eye of PNG Fashion Week Founder and Director, Philma Kelegai, who immediately recognized her potential. Within weeks, Jalissa was shortlisted for the country's national platform, PNG Fashion Week.
Jalissa’s debut on the runway was at a prestigious PNG Fashion Week event, where she walked for incredible indigenous designers. The moment she stepped onto the catwalk, wearing an exquisite gown that highlighted her youthful energy and charisma, the audience was captivated. Social media exploded with praise for the young star, and fashion insiders took notice of her unique presence.
Her ability to connect with the audience, coupled with her striking looks, quickly made her a favorite among designers. In just a few short months, Jalissa was walking for other platforms, and collaborating with established fashion icons. She became a symbol of youthful talent and freshness in an industry often criticized for its lack of diversity and inclusivity.
Jalissa is 23 years old and is from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Sandaun Province and Solomon Islands. She is currently studying Business management at Southern Cross University. Despite the glitz and glam of the fashion industry, Jalissa remains grounded and focused on her passion. While, modeling for PNG Fashion Week has given Jalissa so many opportunities, she remains dedicated to her education and personal growth
